Focus on KONI’s patented Frequency Selective Damping Technology. A new generation of premium shock absorbers is born: KONI SPECIAL ACTIVE

Publié dans Auto / Moto

KONI, the world leading technology manufacturer of high performance shock absorbers, introduces its new range of “SPECIAL ACTIVE” shock absorbers for cars, light trucks and SUVs. As the latest advancement in the world famous KONI product portfolio, the SPECIAL ACTIVE shock absorbers and suspension struts, are available since June 2018.
The ACTIVE technology is KONI’s latest improvement of the KONI’s patented and tried-and-tested Frequency Selective Damping Technology, which has been incorporated in the special KONI shock absorbers, already extremely performant, resulting in a new range of products offering an incomparable handling and driving experience.
Just like a chameleon, the SPECIAL ACTIVE shock absorbers are instantly adapting to the road condition changes, securing comfort and optimum handling.
With the Frequency Selective Damping Technology, KONI’s front and rear shock absorbers optimize the driving experience with a substantial improvement in terms of handling (road holding), stability and comfort, and the guarantee of maximum safety in every situation.
Focus on KONI’s patented Frequency Selective Damping Technology.
Since 2000, KONI’s patented technology has been constantly developed and improved. KNO ACTIVE technology has been adopted by premium car manufacturers throughout the world, such as Alfa-Romeo, Mercedes-Benz, Jeep, Fiat, Opel, Abarth, Lamborghini and Ferrari. Over 1,5 million cars, buses, trucks, vans and campers have received Frequency Selective Damping shock absorbers as Original Equipment from their factories.
How does it work ?
In general suspension terms, the conflict between comfort and handling can be split in two different frequency areas:
• For comfort, with the suspension moving in a high frequency area (± 10 Hz), it is necessary for low damping forces for the vehicle to remain comfortable.
• For handling, with the suspension moving in a low frequency area (± 1 Hz), it is necessary for high damping forces for the vehicle to remain safe and in control.
Conventional dampers are unable to solve the conflict in terms of comfort and handling, however if you are able to create a damper which can change the damping force level in relation to the frequency of the movement, you will be able to solve this conflict.
KONI ACTIVE technology does just that!
In standard shock absorbers the main damping characteristic is defined by the oil flow going through the piston assembly.
Combining this standard damping characteristic with the ACTIVE feature, KONI added a special valve which is able to control a parallel oil flow next to the one going through the piston. This parallel oil flow is closed by the Active feature, giving a rise in damping force almost linear to the time that the piston is moving in one direction.
Put simply : the KONI ACTIVE feature is a hydraulic amplifier that delays the build-up of pressure. One could say that an extra tuning option has been created in order to get the best possible combination of handling and comfort.
Since it is an integrated part of the hydraulic valve system inside the damper, no additional cables, sensors or any other electronic devices are needed to operate a KONI ACTIVE damper.
In comparison with costly systems which work on the basis of computer technology, complex electronics and sensors, KONI ACTIVE the simplest and most economical way to significantly improve the ride and driving characteristics of every car.
A range of products with multiple benefits:
• Improves safety and road holding
• Technology proven on over 1.5 million factory equipped vehicles
• Secure and stable feeling for spirited driving
• Unrivalled aftermarket solution can be fitted to most new and older cars
• Driving refinement for cars, trucks, SUVs, etc.
• Technology that rivals expensive Original Equipment electronic systems
• Performance for driver and comfort for passengers in one
