The Phunk Hits 2018 Tour Schedule
BOSTON – May 10, 2018 – PRLog — Eddie Ray Johnson can recall the days when he lived out of a suitcase and everyday was a ride on a bus, train, or plane. As one of the top sub players for touring blues, rock, country and hip-hop acts during the 1980s and 90’s, life was in constant motion. “I’d be on the road with one act, then get called away to fill in for somebody, so I’d hop a plane, play a few dates and hop another plane to re-join the tour.” Mwalim’s touring experiences were more of a regional nature, consisting of buses and a van with an air mattress and hibachi grill. His memories are that Massachusetts and New Jersey are the worst states for Black motorists and undue scrutiny from law enforcement.
With the grassroots success of their debut album, “Ask Yo’ Mama” in streaming, downloads and CD sales (yup, people still buy those) as well as 4 Grammy nominations;
The Phunk Hits tour (which was originally called The GroovaLottos Travelin’ Show) originally was a civic engagement project that provided opportunities for musicians and mentees to perform in public spaces around the community as capitalize on the international tourism that the Cape Cod area experiences during the summer as their audience. This year’s tour now includes dates in New York City and Maryland.
